ACIS welcomes new members working in any relevant field.
The Association for Contemporary Iberian Studies (ACIS) aims to promote and advance the study of social, literary, cultural, economic and political aspects of contemporary relevance to the Iberian Peninsula within the wider Lusophone and Hispanic Worlds.
The Association holds an annual three-day conference acting as a forum for experts and postgraduate students whose research activity focuses on any Iberian field of expertise. Postgraduate students can apply for a limited set of bursaries, offered every year.
ACIS also publishes an academic journal International Journal of Iberian Studies (IJIS) focusing on contemporary Iberia (20th and 21st -century), welcoming articles that apply a comparative or intertwined methodology to the study of Spain and Portugal, considering other identities, cultures, nationalities and communities.
New members working on Iberian Studies are very welcome.
Activities
The Association holds an annual three-day conference which is noted for the variety and scope of the papers.
Below are the suggested thematic areas for papers and panels, which must advance understanding of contemporary socio-cultural, economic and political issues and realities and relate primarily to Spain and/or Portugal and transnational issues and processes relating to the Iberian Peninsula within the wider Lusophone and Hispanic worlds.
Both single-disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives are encouraged and the themes listed below are not exclusive.
- Politics, Government, International Relations, the EU, Nationalism, Regionalisms, Transnational issues and processes
- Economics, Business, Labour, Social and Welfare issues
- Cultural production in all its forms (e.g. film, television, journalism, literature, media, advertising, digital communication & social networking)
- Social and Cultural Studies (e.g. identity, gender, ethnicity, popular culture)
- Leisure, Tourism, Sport
- Contemporary history
- Language, Linguistics, Language Policy
- Education and Pedagogy

IJIS News - Fast-track publishing system
The International Journal of Iberian Studies (IJIS), edited by Intellect Books and linked with the Association for Contemporary Iberian Studies, has adhered to a fast-track publishing system. From now on, articles will be published online as soon as they have successfully passed the blind-peer review process.
